MANILA, Philippines–Alex Eala takes her act to Japan, making her debut at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo starting October 26.

The WTA 500 tournament is the penultimate stop of Eala’s Asian swing and WTA season, and she looks to make a deeper run with the support of the Filipino crowd in attendance.

“I’m so excited to be joining the Pan Pacific Open this year,” Eala said in a video shared by the organizers.

“I heard that the crowd in Tokyo is amazing, so I’m so excited to experience that and that there’s also a Filipino community there.  So I hope to see you guys. I hope you guys can come out and watch and support all the players.”

Eala, who dipped to No. 20 in the latest WTA rankings, is coming off a second-round exit in the Ningbo Open in China. She beat Diane Parry to open her campaign before losing a tough match to Diana Shnaider in the round of 16.

The result was an improvement on her previous outings. Eala bowed out in the opening rounds of the Singapore Open and Wuhan Open to unheralded opponents.

After the Toray Pan Pacific Open, Eala will head to the Hong Kong Tennis Open to conclude her first full WTA season, during which she won her breakthrough singles title in Washington, D.C.

Eala is also slated to compete in an exhibition event at Philippine Arena on December 8.
